From there we narrow it with acoustic listening equipment and, where the line runs under concrete, thermal reading of the floor, since a hot-water slab leak warms the surface above it long before it soaks through.
That sequence matters most on the thousands of homes built across Cherokee County in the last twenty years on concrete slabs. A supply line nicked during construction or corroded at a fitting can weep for a year into the fill under the slab before it finds its way up, and only careful location keeps the fix from becoming a jackhammer expedition across the whole floor. When the leak turns out to be under the foundation, that is its own job, which is why we treat slab leaks as a separate, more involved service.
Not every leak is dramatic. A running toilet flapper or a seeping angle stop can waste more water in a month than a burst line does in a day, quietly. That is why the same visit that finds a hidden pipe leak often ends at a toilet or a faucet that has been losing water the whole time.
Signs worth a call before the drywall gets involved.
None of these on its own is proof, but two together usually mean water is going somewhere it should not:.

- The faint sound of running water when every fixture is off.
- A pressure regulator that hisses, or pressure that feels high at the taps.
- Mildew smell in a room that has no obvious water source.
Once the spot is marked, the repair depends on what is there. A single bad fitting is a quick correction. A supply line that has failed in one place on an older galvanized system in the Holly Springs or downtown area is often a sign the rest of that run is close behind. Can you find a leak without breaking anything?

We open only where the evidence points, so the access hole is as small as the repair allows. On a hidden slab line that occasionally means a small, deliberate opening in the floor, but it is targeted, not exploratory.
My water bill jumped but I don't see any water. Is that a leak?
